Alex the grate.

Montreal Canadiens. When news arose out of Montreal that Alexei Kovalvei was asked to stay home for the next two games, I was confused but not terribly sad.  The case was, I was still happy about New Jersey “native” Mathieu Schneider being traded back to the Canadiens over the holiday weekend.  It finally dawned late last night that this two game “break” was designed around a short Montreal road trip that includes Washington tonight.

So with my trusty Patrick Roy sweater tucked neatly around my desk, here I sit, crying that not only will I miss the great 33 (as to be expected), but that 27 will be just as aloof and mysterious.  Rumors are swirling that Kovalev has played his last game in Le-Bleu-Blanc-et-Rouge, making these two games the start to the next stop of his awkwardly starred career.

Kovalev puts the “me” in “mercurial”, but he appears to have enough left in the tank to be effective in the right situation.  Trouble is, these players are adults; at what point do you stop trying to create that “right situation”?

In the meantime,  sadness all around.  Here is hoping the game is close enough for me to cheer back and forth properly, but ultimately ending with a win for the Capitals.

One Response to “Alex the grate.”
